Jim Arnold

Principal Officer Transformational Learning, Liverpool LA

Twenty years experience in school improvement as School Improvement Officer, Principal School Improvement Officer, SIP and Ofsted Registered Inspector. Current role is as Principal Officer Transformational Learning linked to the local authority’s delivery of BSF. As former Head of Secondary Education in Liverpool, Mr Arnold has successfully provided support and challenge to a number of secondary schools in Ofsted categories.

Alan Yates – nominated Chair of IEB

Headteacher Great Sankey High School, Warrington

Headteacher for eighteen years in two 11-19 high schools and judged as providing outstanding leadership by Ofsted. Brings extensive experience of successfully raising achievement through effective school leadership. Highly regarded across three local authorities worked for; Cheshire, Liverpool and Warrington.  Chair of two national steering groups for the SSAT and a regular contributor to the NCSL NPQH programme. Regular speaker at a wide range of conferences and courses  on topics such as Curriculum and School Design, Building Sustainable Business Partnerships, Enterprise Education, Succession Planning, Inclusion and Leadership.

Cllr Mary Rasmussen

Employment Consultant with Seetec working on a Government programme to assist disabled people back into employment within Speke/Garston.

Councillor for Speke/Garston Ward.

Cllr Rasmussen has worked in the community for over twenty years and was elected to Liverpool City Council in May 2007.  Her children attended Speke Community Comprehensive School which is now Parklands.  The education of children in the Speke ward is one of her priorities and she was appointed as an additional governor to Parklands High School by the local authority when the school was first placed in special measures.

Jan Peckett

Secondary National Strategy Deputy Senior School Improvement Adviser: North West

Seven years working for Secondary National Strategy, Quality Manager at Manchester Metropolitan University working in partnership with secondary schools delivering CPD, Masters in Education courses and initial teacher training. Accredited Ofsted inspector, Additional Inspector for Ofsted.

In her role with the Secondary National Strategy, Mrs Peckett was a member of the team developing the AfL 8 Schools Project (about managing whole school change). She has engaged in school review activity with Liverpool which has focused on AfL and the quality of learning and teaching.

Mary Belchem

Transitional Strategic Director, Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council (KMBC)

Until 1 November 2008, Headteacher, Knowsley Hey Arts College, Huyton, Merseyside. B.Ed. (Hons) M.A., SIP accreditation, NPQH

Ms Belcham has a successful track record of school improvement within a challenging urban environment and against a backdrop of high deprivation. The socio-economic issues are similar to Speke with the attendant issues of health, poor literacy and low aspirations. Her experience of working with parents, governors, other stakeholders and the wider community has relevance to the people and community of Speke.

Ms Belcham has supported other schools and heads in Knowsley as a peer appraiser and has hosted trainee headteachers through the NCSL programmes. In her new position with KMBC she is working to support all secondary schools in Knowsley to ensure that standards in English and maths are sustained and improved during the transition period to new Centres for Learning under BSF.

Steve Casey

Community Pastor

Serving governor at Parklands High School, Mr Casey has worked closely with the local authority Project Group to strengthen support and challenge to the school. Mr Casey is a qualified teacher and a pastor within the Speke community. He is strongly committed to community engagement and securing educational outcomes for the children of Speke.

Wayne Gales

Director of Operations, South Liverpool Housing

Mr Gales was appointed as an additional governor to Parklands High School by the local authority when the school was first placed in special measures. South Liverpool Housing is collocated with Parklands High School and has strong community links; the organisation has made a demonstrable commitment to Parklands High School in releasing Mr Gales for additional work with the school. Mr Gales brings business acumen and a good understanding of robust management systems.
